process
Last year, I went on a search trying to define my identity as being both Filipino and American. As I found that there is flexibility to be both, not have to choose one culture, I decided to search further into how culture can affect gender. For my collection, I explored what being a Filipina-American woman means to me by looking at the tensions between my different cultural upbringings and how I can incorporate the variety of those traditions and histories into my work. Throughout my creative process, I discovered techniques on how I define my perspective of my cultural identity through themes of textile application, pattern design and playing with silhouettes.
